UPDATE: Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 – Vodafone UK Exclusive, Q4 Release Date!

Well, what a way to top off a day of big phone announcements!
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 is due to be announced the IFA any moment now, and the second phone (after the HTC Touch2) to ship with Windows Mobile 6.5 installed will be a Vodafone UK exclusive!
With a 3.2″ touchscreen display, 8.1 megapixel camera, 4GB of memory as standard (via a microSD card), as well as the famed Panels making a reappearance, the XPERIA X2 seems set to continue Sony’s line of high-end stylish smartphones that began at the end of 2008.
The Xperiancers Flickr account has the first raft of official press shots, and the XPERIA X2 certainly looks like a fine figure of a smartphone with the slider form factor revealing a four row keyboard.
Panels are said to have been given a drastic overhaul, with more settings including the time of day that certain ones should appear, and more of a graphical flourish than those on the original device. The ‘Tidalwave’ homescreen has an amazing visual representation of all important information and features, on a constantly undulating 3D surface which instantly evokes memories of the (recently revamped) Media Bar on the Playstation 3.
More details as soon as we get them! For now, enjoy the visual spendour…
UPDATE: Slightly more concrete info, thanks to the official press release. The Xperia X2 will be available in black and silver just like the original, and launch with 14 preloaded Panels, 16 more are available to download at launch. The X2 has microSD support up to 16GB, and weighs 115g. Full specs are up on our Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 features page.

UPDATE: Now with launch videos of Xperia team members Sumit Malhotra and Aaron Duke showing off the device!
