Windows Mobile 6.5 To Launch October 6th With Phones From LG, HTC, Sony Ericsson And More…

Microsoft’s upgrade to their Windows Phone software finally has a date, with October 6th marking the big change to 6.5.
Said to be responding to the issues that users have faced with using Windows Mobile as a touch driven interface, Windows 6.5 will be a decent stop gap between the aging current interface and the seismic changes Windows Mobile 7 is said to be bringing in 2010.
In addition to being offered as an upgrade for owners of many Windows Mobile 6.1 handsets (explaining the existence of the Windows button on the HTC Touch Diamond 2, amongst others), it will also come ready to go on a range of new devices.
With a wealth of phone makers and networks pledging support for the smartphone software successor – LG, Samsung, Orange, Sony Ericsson, Vodafone and Toshiba are just a few of those on board – all eyes will be on whether the combination of revised hardware and an more user-friendly interface can stave off Android and the iPhone until the real evolution in Windows Mobile arrives…
