T-Mobile UK Scraps Combi, Flext Tariffs To Make Way For “Flexible Boosters”

T-Mobile UK is paving the way for simpler mobile phone deals from February 1st, replacing the Combi, U-Fix and Flext tariffs with new plans that ‘mould to consumer needs’.

The new selection of deals will be more clearly defined, with handset costs traded off against free minutes and texts and reflected in the prices.

Both 18 and 24 month plans will still be available.

The cheapest T-Mobile pay monthly deal will start at 100 minutes and 100 texts at £15 per month, with the priciest being 1,200 minutes and 500 texts for £35 a month.

An additional £5 to any 24-month contract cost gives up the equivalent 18-month pricing, a fine example of the more transparent billing structure.

Free handsets will be available at each price point, with high end devices like the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and forthcoming HTC ‘Bravo’ to reside on the highest tier.

Each deal will also offer a choice of seven “flexible boosters”, additional services akin to O2′s Bolt-Ons offering more to every pay monthly contract.

Geared to offer flexibility, a choice of unlimited texts, unlimited internet (1GB fair usage), unlimited landline calls, unlimited T-Mobile calls as well as a selection of international calling bundles are available, and can be switched out every 30 days to suit personal needs.

If consumers wish to get further freebies, they can sign up for “chargeable boosters” at a cost of £5 for each additional service.

T-Mobile pay-as-you-go will receive a shot in the arm with an online-only offer of 1,000 free texts from February to May 2010, hoping to continue the trend of a 67% rise in take up following the ‘free texts and internet for life’ prepay ad campaign in the latter half of last year.

As for SIM-only, T-Mobile will also be adopting that very moniker as they retire the ‘Solo’ name on March 1st.

The SIM-only selection will consist of the familiar 1 month rolling and 12-month tariffs, with a mid-range leading offer of 350 minutes and 300 texts for £15.

The current unlimited text SIM-only deals will be phased out after the March 1st switchover.

SIM-only customers are also eligible to receive the free flexible booster, as well as the the choice to purchase chargeable boosters for an extra fiver per month.

With a focus on better consumer offers, reduced complexity and clear differentiation, T-Mobile hopes to see both pay monthly and SIM-only take off throughout 2010.
