T-Mobile Pulse Revealed: World’s First Prepay Android Phone!

T-Mobile and Huawei have joined forces today, unveiling the T-Mobile Pulse as the first Android phone to step into the pay-as-you-go arena.
The third Google-powered mobile from T-Mobile after the G1 and G2 Touch, the Pulse offers a low cost solution to the masses looking for mail and web browsing on their phone, as well as a stylish handset with social networking functionality for just under £180.
The 3.5″ HVGA display is the largest yet seen on an Android device, and the feature set screams mid-range as opposed to the usual pay-as-you-go ‘burners’ on offer. With a 3.2 megapixel camera, 2GB of memory, the Android Market for downloading apps and Jukebox for grabbing music, and in-built GPS (with a one-month sat-nav trial), the Pulse is more than well equipped. 3G connectivity offers HSDPA, whilst Wi-Fi support allows seamless transfer onto wireless networks and T-Mobile hotspots dotted around the country.
Designed from the ground up by Huawei and T-Mobile, the Pulse retains the popular trackball for navigation whilst eschewing the more polarising design decisions of other Android handsets, with a sleek and simple form factor. Whilst the Pulse is available with a white rear case in other territories, the T-Mobile Pulse is in black and chrome with the possibility of other colours on the way.
The Pulse is also customised with a brand new “Canvas” user interface overlaid on Android, allowing applications and items to be laid out on a zoomable grid in an ever-expanding fashion, as opposed to the horizontal ‘pages’ on a standard smart phone. Zooming out allows all apps and features to be seen, and accessed, in a single button press.
The T-Mobile Pulse is due for an October 2009 release, with a price of £179.99 on prepay. Internet data can be bundled on top for a fiver a month, or £1 a day on a T-Mobile booster. Contract pricing for the Pulse is to be determined.
