Samsung S9110 Resets Watch Phone Game With €450 Price Tag, July Release

By Ernest Doku

Samsung S9110

We knew that Samsung wouldn’t let LG get away with the attention their watch phone was getting!

Since their diorama at Mobile World Congress reminding the world they made the some of the first ever telephonic timepieces, Samsung has been beavering away on their own device to blow LG’s GD910 away!

The Samsung S9110 is now the world’s thinnest touchscreen phone at 11.98mm, which also happens to have the honour of nestling on your wrist. With a specs sheet to make fully-fledged handsets cower, the S9110 has an MP3 player, speakerphone (yes, it is a real life Dick Tracy mobile), voice recognition, Bluetooth v2.1 support and the ability to sync with Microsoft Outlook for email.

It doesn’t however, have the video conferencing function that made LG’s announcement (with added Ballmer) so amusing…

Oh, and it is out in France this July, costing a mere €450 (£389). That’s less than half the price that LG’s watch phone is rumoured to cost, as well as being a month earlier to market!

France is only a hop over the pond, let’s hope that means a UK release is on the cards too.

UPDATE: Alas, a UK outing for the S9110 seems unlikely. Techradar went direct to source for an answer, and was met with a kindly “nope, look at how many great Samsung phones we’ve released already, you lucky people!” We’re paraphrasing.

Anyone up for a watch phone cruise to Paris?
