Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 getting Android 4.4 KitKat, in January

South Korean electronics giant Samsung is allegedly rolling out the new Android 4.4 KitKat operating system to its handsets, in the first month of next year.

This is according to a leaked document, from the Samsung R&D department, in India.

It notes that both the current Galaxy S4 and the third iteration of its phablet – the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, will gain the KRT16 update – January, 2014.

KRT16 is the Android 4.4 KitKat OS, which we have written about this week, in the Google Nexus 4 OTA rollout.

This update is for the models GT-i9500 and SM-N900, whereas the UK models are the GT-I9505 (S4) and SM-N9005 (Note 3).

The doc has been passed along to iTechAddict, by an insider of the site.

There are two older products mentioned, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Those have a longer wait to receive the Android 4.4 update, noted to be between March and April.

The model numbers for these are quoted to be GT-I9300, and SM-N7100.

Unlike the others, those numbers match the UK variants, where the timelines of these deployments could match India’s.

Omio expects the UK rollout to the S4 and Note 3, shouldn’t be too far behind, either.
