Nintendo President: DSi Not A Reaction To The iPhone
Nintendo’s big cheese Satoru Iwata has responded to rumours, stating categorically that their new camera packing, MP3-playing Nintendo DSi is not a device pitted against Apple’s iPhone or the Sony PSP.
He reiterates that Nintendo’s goal, as ever, is to make the hardware more useful to users in their daily life.
“We wanted users to have the device on them at all times,” he said. “By downloading subway maps and other things, for instance, the DSi can be useful for applications other than playing games. We wanted to create an offering that would fit naturally into people’s everyday lives.”
The hardware is earmarked for a 2009 US and European launch, and will sell approximately eleventy billion units. The thing about Nintendo is that they have never been followers of industry trends and fashions, becoming hugely successful in the process. Why start now?
