LG Sky Charger

At their press conference LG promised to become more green in 2009. To prove this aim is genuine they unveiled the Sky Charger. Sky Charger is a giant mobile phone charger that is powered by solar and wind energy. It can charge up to 144 phones in an hour and works for most handsets except for Palm. The charger even works when there is no sun or wind as it can store the energy it has already generated. The Sky Charger is perfect for music festivals and will be available in Burning Man which takes place in the Nevada desert (I’m there wouldn’t be any lack of sun light there).
The Sky Charger itself is a large tent with 144 lockers each with the relevant mobile chargers all attached to the central generator. You attach your phone to the charger and lock the locker and come back in an hour or so. I charged my phone today and within about 4 hours it was fully charged.
It is heartening that a multi-national company is making a real effort to help publicise renewal energy. I think the best aspect of the Sky Charger is that it is not limited to LG phones which proves it isn’t some cynical marketing exercise.

Sky Charger only works on a big scale and it’s not the sort of thing you could lug about by yourself. If you want to have your own environmentally friendly charger without having to erect a giant tent there is the K2 wind and solar charger by Kinesis Industries. K2 works for a variety of devices apart from mobile phones such as MP3 players, portable games consoles, GPS devices and cameras. The K2 charger provides 30 minutes of talk time and for MP3s over 300 minutes of playing time. The K2 is portable, durable and has the largest rechargable battery capacity of its group. It would be perfect for campers and I think there are amazing opportunites for its use in developing countries where access to electricity can be limited.

snap.. sure is a lot of spam.
“without having to erect a giant tent” yeah but the K2 is like a giant dildo. it’s been erected = P
One charge will only give you 30 minutes of talk time on your phone? What kind of lame battery does it use? A single triple A batter?
@cal87
If your dildo looks like a K2 I really pity you. You must have real trouble sitting down. It’d be like putting your lower intestine through a salami slicer
I love the K2 design, but can’t help wondering about its durability. Also, how long it will take to fully charge indoors.
