The iPhone will indeed be getting a bit more colour from November 10th, as Orange has confirmed the release date of both the 3G and 3GS to UK customers.

The iPhone on Orange pricing is certainly competitive up against the offerings on O2, both on pay monthly and prepay.

The iPhone 3G (8GB) will be available for free on a £30, 24 month contract (150 mins and 250 texts with unlimited wi-fi/browsing), whilst the iPhone 3GS model is available for free on 24 month contracts starting from £45 per month.

Prepay iPhone pricing is understandably a little more, with the 3G available for £343 and the 16GB 3GS model selling for £440. The 32GB iPhone 3GS costs £539.

250MB of mobile internet and unlimited wi-fi (with a 750MB fair usage limit) is included in the £10 minimum Orange prepay top-up, and spending £50 on credit gets you a tenner lopped off the cost of the iPhone – not a bad gesture!

The unlimited wi-fi works over BT’s OpenZone, and the option to use the iPhone as a tethering modem for laptop broadband can be included from £5 per month.

There is also a wider variety of contracts for the iPhone on Orange, with nine deals as opposed to the seven currently available on O2.

Whilst the tariffs are very similar between the two telecoms giants, Orange has cleverly sneaked in a £29.36 24 month contract, a fiver cheaper than the £34.26 entry level deal on O2.

Combined with the free iPhone 3G, this is certain to be a compelling offer for those eager to get the revolutionary device at a low price, on a network with excellent 3G coverage.

Orange’s priciest 18 month contract is only a penny cheaper than O2, with £73.40 per month netting 3000 minutes and 500 texts, and a mere 39p off the 32GB 3GS on O2 at £96.50.

The top-tier 24 month contract is actually far beyond the most expensive O2 offering, with a whopping £122.34 per month getting you a free handset, and unlimited minutes and texts across all models of both the 3G and 3GS.

With a 7am UK wide launch on the 10th across all 402 Orange stores, HMV concessions, Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4U and the Apple Store, sales on Orange could well be even more lucrative than the iPhone on O2 in the run-up to Christmas…
