Samsung i8000 Omnia 2 Revealed!

Another day, another high-end Samsung phone makes a premature appearance!

Last week it was the snap-happy ‘M8920′ getting an unscheduled photo shoot, this time the Samsung i8000/Omnia 2 gets its first outing, showing itself off as a Windows-powered sequel with improvements where it counts.

With an i8910 HD-matching 3.7″ AMOLED screen, an 8.1 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and all manner of 3G connectivity through Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS, the Omnia 2 certainly has the specs to live up to the reputation of the original.

However, our slightly lacklustre Samsung Omnia review was particularly harsh on the integration of Windows Mobile, finding it a painful and imprecise affair after the initially gorgeous home screen. However, WinMo 6.1 is rumoured to be far more of a customised TouchWiz affair this time around, going further with keeping up the consistency of menus etc.

Here’s a quick video demonstrating the Omnia 2 / i8000, in particular the new ‘Cubic’ interface that Samsung seems to be going for. The cube button is very visible on the Omnia 2 and the S8000 “Jet” Android phone which we have been excited about for a little while…whether the Samsung Blade’s central key is something else, we have to wait and see!

As for a release date, we have no idea. Will this be the phone revealed at the Samsung Unpacked event on 15th June? Perhaps…
