Samsung i7500: June Release on O2 UK For First Samsung Android Phone!

This moment has been a long time coming. We know HTC got in at the ground floor with Google’s Android operating system, impressing many with the T-Mobile G1 and later the HTC Magic, but we have eagerly anticipated what the other majors would come up with…
Wait no longer, meet the Samsung i7500!
German newspaper Bild Am Sonntag conducted the (in)formal introductions by leaking specs which were made official mere hours later by Samsung themselves, ending months of speculation and proving this is definitely their Android real deal.
The i7500 continues the Samsung affection for super-bright AMOLED touch displays (also on the Tocco Ultra and Omnia HD) with a 3.2″ screen, all the more lovely to run the new Android 1.5 “Cupcake” OS.
The handset comes ready for photo opportunities with a 5 megapixel camera and ticks all of the connectivity boxes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, microUSB as well as the muso’s favourite – a 3.5mm audio jack. Memory is ample with 8GB of internal storage, expandable by microSD card.
With a clean form factor fairly reminiscent of Vodafone’s upcoming exclusive Magic, the Samsung i7500 will apparently fly the Android flag for O2, the first network touted to snap up the smartphone. With a June release set on the UK network, it can’t be long before we see the handset becoming available at the usual SIM-free suspects for the €300/£270.
Exciting Android times!

[...] that impressive…the real test will be when Vodafone’s Magic and (allegedly) O2’s Samsung’s i7500 are on the market! Sphere: Related Content Written by Ernest in: News | Tags: Android 1.5, [...]
I was in an O2 store yesterday, and the guy in there said they’d had no word of any Android handsets coming, and he’d be very surprised if they had any planned. Android is in direct competition with the iPhone, and as they have the exclusive on that, Android is not something they want at the moment. That’s the same reason why O2 isn’t getting the N97 for the foreseable future…
@Keith: Exactly, the Galaxy is in direct competition to the iPhone. If O2 don’t pick it up, someone else will (most likely Orange) so more than anything they actually would be sensible to stock it. Say in a month when iPhone sales have calmed down a little. I reckon if Orange/any other provider had it they’d have announced to make people think again about getting an iPhone. So given it’s come out on o2 in Germany, I’d say it’s more than likely we’ll see it in the UK on o2 very soon.
It’s July now. wtf is it? Seriously, there’s about 3 phones that I’d like to buy, but it seems that no one wants to take my money, because they’re not released in the UK yet.
