iPhone on Orange – Compare & Buy Orange iPhone Deals
UPDATE #5: iPhone on Orange – pricing revealed!
The iPhone 3G (8GB) will be available for free on a £30, 24 month contract (150 mins and 250 texts with unlimited wi-fi/browsing), whilst the 3GS (16GB) is available for free on 24 month contracts from £45 per month.
Prepay iPhone pricing is a little more, with the 3G available for £343 and the 16GB 3GS model selling for £440. The 32GB iPhone 3GS costs £539.
250MB of mobile internet and unlimited wi-fi (750MB fair usage) is included in the £10 minimum Orange top-up, and spending £50 on credit gets you a tenner lopped off the cost of the iPhone – not a bad gesture!
UPDATE #4: iPhone on Orange coming 10th November – According to a report in the Times, an undisclosed source has tipped the iPhone 3G and 3GS as becoming available from the 10th of November, a day after the O2 exclusivity agreement expires. Not wasting any time, are they?
Both 3 and Vodafone are tipped to bring the handset to their networks in 2010, whilst Orange remain the earliest to make the handset available…
UPDATE #3: The iPhone is coming to Orange: it’s official! Following months of speculation, rumour and hearsay, Orange has finally announced that they will be selling the iPhone later on in the year.
Ending O2′s two-year exclusivity contract, this deal means that Orange will be bringing both the iPhone 3G 8GB, and iPhone 3GS to their millions of customers in the UK.
No details regarding dates and pricing have been unveiled, but this side of Christmas is highly likely with a potential iPhone price war on our hands!
The iPhone will be available at all of Orange’s points of sale, including high street stores, online and through partner retailers.
The Orange website already has a dedicated page for users to register their interest, and surely are pinning their hopes on emulating the huge success that the coveted handset proved for O2.
UPDATE #2: T-Mobile x Orange merger alert! What does this mean for the iPhone on Orange? Only good things… With October seeing the end to O2′s exclusivity, Orange’s CEO Tom Alexander seems optimistic:
“We’ve got a fantastic platform and are obviously the network of choice for all multimedia devices, including potential(ly) the iPhone in future”.
Gervais Pellissier, FD of Orange’s parent company France Telecom, said: “We [France Telecom and T-Mobile’s parent Deutsche Telekom] are both very good partners of Apple in our domestic markets and [the joint venture means] we have a very good chance to be a strong partner here in the UK”.
With the iPhone on Orange in France and T-Mobile in Germany, it could happen…in the meantime we have the best O2 iPhone deals on the iPhone 3GS 16gb and iPhone 3GS 32GB at Omio!
UPDATE: We might soon see the iPhone 3G on Orange and T-Mobile, O2′s exclusivity is set to end from September ’09!
There had been rumours swirling around for a little while now, but we think that all of the pieces fit into place a little too well…
We’ve had word from a very, very credible source on the inside that the iPhone 3G will be available on Orange in the UK, possibly as soon as October.
We know. It sounds a bit hard to believe, but in light of recent events it seems a great deal more likely than not. Let us weigh up the evidence for the iPhone 3G’s October emancipation…
- O2 did win out in the UK, but don’t forget that Orange snagged the iPhone 3G in France, whilst T-Mobile had rights to the device in Germany, and it is available on the Optus, Telstra and Vodafone networks in Australia.
*UPDATE: It’s half way through October and no news, what gives? Well, after much twisting of arms and pulling of hair, we managed to extract some information from our source.
He admits to having been slightly “overzealous” in his ‘October for iPhone’ statement, and says that the success of the iPhone 3G and PAYG option have delayed if not scuppered Orange’s plans to break the monopoly.
Oh well, at least there are a wealth of iPhone alternatives on the networks this festive period…

OMG – That’s HUGE news!!!
Personally I’d love to see o2 get a little competition, let’s see a price war! Definitely great news for consumers…
WANT. I’m far, far too lazy to change providers. This way I can stay with my beloved Orange and get an iPhone.
[...] to the mobile fans at Omio, they’ve had “word from a very, very credible source on the inside that the iPhone 3G will be [...]
If this does happen – i’d say its likely to hit Voda UK too – given that they already sell it in 21 markets globally
I’m all for it being available through all networks
None of the Apple UK product shots have had the o2 network tag on it.. nor does any of the product information in the box.. It’s always “the carrier” or generic words to that effect. I’ve always assumed that o2′s exclusivity wouldn’t be eternal, following other phone launches “only on o2 [initially]“, and wouldn’t be at all surprised if Orange start getting the phone, and, to be honest, why not Vodafone too? The same arguments can be made about them being on other European networks / more elusive corporate (or individuals for that matter). And while i’m on to it, what makes any body think that Orange (in France) will keep exclusivity of the iPhone there?? Their sales of the first iphone were pretty miserable, and SFR has a solid network. Above all, I don’t see why Apple benefits from this exclusive network stuff anymore now that they don’t get kick-backs from the montly contract.. so why on earth not?
It’s very true,
Apple are not benifiting from an exclusivity deal with the carrier other than i’m assuming the one-off deal with O2. I reckon O2 have bought out the rights to sell the phone exclusivily for however many months/years, and maybe if this is true, it’s their contract coming to an end with Apple. I don’t know whether Apple want to renew with 02 as it’s not in their interest financially, to do so. It would explain if this “credible source” is correct about the avaliability on Orange.
I was discussing this the other day, but came to the conclusion that O2 would hold on for as long as possible and put in more money where necessary. I thought it would at LEAST be a few years before loosing the exclusivity.
I’d personally like to see the iPhone come out on other networks.
I’m stuck on 02 PAYG at the moment and it’s crap for the iPhone. On their contracts I would end up spending approx £540 a year, which I, at the moment don’t want to boxed into getting.
Let the price war commense…

this is great
the iphone and apple will get much more money this way bringing the iphone 3g on many different networks now i can get one
wow this is amazing if its true i will deffinatly be buying one i hope you hear this APPLE!
I, too, hope Apple are listening! I’m not changing from Orange. All my family are on it, it is good value, and definitely the best signal in Devon, where stay regularly. I actually searched for “iPhone Orange” to find this, so you can imagine my delight at reading it. I just hope the rumour is borne out. I love all things Apple and badly need the use of something really portable whereby I can stay in touch with someone with whom email is my only source of contact, in privacy, and have fast internet access, too.
Listen up, Applie – If the iPhone’s not on the Orange network by Christmas, I shall be buying an alternative!
As a company we’re stuck on the Orange network, mainly because it’s good, however depending on the decision on Apple to allow Orange to sell the iPhone will determine whether we get the blackberry bold or iphone. I think it’s a silly decision to not offer it to all networks. Where has freedom of choice gone?
OMG this is great iv been with orange for years and lately i have been really really wanting the iphone. i have been keeping my eye on this since the news was released. now its getting closer and closer to october and i have not read anything else apart from rumors. Im starting to wonder if this is going to happen.
I just want to hear an update on this rumor
I dont think that you will hear anything other than rumours – with giants like apple and orange wont let anything slip until the deal is signed.
But I would also like to receive an iphone on the orange contract…
Pah…. I’m on Orange at the moment and HATE them. Can’t even get a decent signal in our flat in London. Really bad customer service too. Can’t wait until my contract runs out!
Hmmm…looking like a bust now. I think if it was going to happen in October they would have announced it already. I think the rumor is mixed up with October being the month that the iPhone can be sold by other retailers (still only on o2 though.
Great shame as I can’t get o2 where I am so was hoping for an Orange one. Waste of money getting an o2 version however much I’d like one (lots!)
yeah that’s really annoying as I can’t get O2 signal where I live. I’ll just have to hack the network lock!
[...] 6. The 3G reception on O2 is really ropey in Edinburgh. Its fine on wifi and when you can connect on 3G but alot of the time i’m back on GPRS i think. Hopefully orange will get the contract soon… [...]
Just got off the phone to Orange, asking how much it would cost me to upgrade today…cutting a long story short it was alot. The guy in the call centre advised me to wait til Feb when it would be free…HERE’S THE GOOD BIT…and that “between now and then the iPhone and N96 will be out too”
So don’t write this one off too soon!!!
Omg Apple please sort out ur contract with Orange as I would love an iphone 3G 16GB for Chrissy!
I also do not want to change my service provider or sign up to an 18 months contract with anyone! So come on in these difficult times share the monopoly with other providers to entice more customers & better deals than 500 texts blah ……………….
I want it on orange because i like orange and im not changing my provider! Its about time it opened to more providers
xx
The iphone should defiantly go to orange. to have an iphone on o2 where i live would be usless(i really want 1), so defiantly should be in orange stores.
Same here I want an iphone but on a good Network. O2 is one of the worse 3g Network in UK.
Why!!!???? Why!!!!????
you say that ipone is coming to orage but where in november now still no news so hurry up and let us no more info
Would be nice to here some news. i asked in an orange shop today and they said it isn’t coming to orange stores so would be nice if we were told whether it is available on orange in future or not
I think that Orange picked up the xperia x1 by Sony Ericcson and the newly released Blackberry Storm as well, so if go to compare mobile phone offers from Orange for the holidays, you are going to have a wide variety of options.
Any update on this? It was first reported back in July, and not heard a peep since. My contract has ended with Orange, and I am looking for a new phone, but dont want to particularly move from Orange, but I have had a good play around with the Iphone and well……………..I WANT ONE NOW!!! Please update with latest.
I was hoping this rumour was true…guess its wishful thinking. I’ve also heard that the X1 will be an orange exclusive but sign of it yet and the blackberry storm is exclusive to vodafone
need to change my w890i bloody thing keeps crashing and restarting itself!!!
what’s the omnia like??
I work for orange. We are releasing the iphone in May 09
OMG I have been waiting for this. Hopefully it will just be in time for renewing my contract. I really really want a Iphone. I’m getting fed up of having to go on the PC to put music on my Sony when I should be able do it from Itunes on my MAc. Why isn’t everything Apple. It would be so much easier.
I work for Orange. We are releasing theiphone in May 2011
Been doing some digging on this. The original exclusive agreement with 02 and Apple was for 18 months and started back in Nov 2007, therefore there could be some truth in the May 09, orange release.
ok then Mr.’i work for orange’ with his May 2011 iphone on orange release date, that’s over 2 yrs away. it’s gonna have to be some heck of an iphone by then if we’ve to wait that long. who u trying to fool?
Wicked thats soooooo MEGa Apple & Orange what a great fruity combination am sure this will be a winner I want to stay with Orange and I love the Iphone- well thats the problem solved for me. i will look forward eagerly in anticipation. be better even sooner too summer 09 would be fantastic! heres hoping….
[...] O2 is going to want to shift the remaining stock of the old models in anticipation of the next iPhone. With a million units sold of the first two generations of iPhone, the network is clearly keen to continue their success. However, Orange is said to be talking to Apple in freeing up the exclusivity deal for UK distribution. Yeah, we’ve been burnt by Orange insiders telling us that before… [...]
Its brill news and when in october will it be out ??
I can’t wait till Orange get the iPhone
I really really want an iphone and I dont want to leave orange either I’ve always been with them they have fantstic customer service and I always have better signal than my boyf BUT HE’S JUST GOT AN IPHONE!!!!! I’m suprised O2 are allowed to monopolise it. Come on Apple listen to the people!!!!
Got an iPhone last week and was so disappointed when I got home to find zero signal from O2 anywhere near our village! Had the phone for only 4 hours and it had to go back. In that time I had played and played with it and totally fell in love with it. I don’t think there;s anything like it, or the deal with O2, anywhere else in the marketplace at this time.
Come on Apple, let Orange have the iPhone!
Ok, so you’ve said it will be out in October, this was posted in 2008… it’s now 2009 and iPhone is still not out on Orange – I think you should have a very very strong word or two with your very, very credible source on the inside
Hi, I’m an iPhone user. Firstly it’s amazing and people shouldn’t let o2 put them off. Secondly, I’ve looked into it and found out from a director of sales at o2 that apple is keeping iPhone exclusive to them. It was a 5 year deal when the origional iPhone came out so there is still plenty of time left in that deal.
Orange fans, your in for a long wait, and that’s assuming o2 don’t get another deal!
The FD has said yes to us having iPhones, but the Company contract is with Orange – how frustrating is that!
Ha. Finally. Orange is by far the best tariff to be on. I am so glad that orange have got the iPhone. They will make thousands!
So, after spending far too much time googling around the globe to see if Orange (UK) is really getting the iphone does any one really really know ? I rang Orange today and as normal when I ring spoke to a very nice girl (in the UK) she told me they were aware they were loosing loads of customers because they don’t have the iphone but they where not getting it for the foreseeable future . . . . I like many others don’t won’t to leave Orange, I left o2 / BT/ Cell Net years ago with crap service and crap customer care but as a MAC user and owner of a Blackberry that struggles to do anything much with MAC I am not left with much choice am I ! ? Maybe “Mobile me” / “Missing sync” will work ?
Yeah i also just phoned Orange, they said they missed there chance last Christmas.
Unfortunately i have to leave Orange next month to get the new Iphone (End of June im told by O2)
Real shame, i have been with Orange for 10 years now. I find it astonishing that O2 can have a such a monopoly over this phone
ah well bye bye Orange ;-(
Like many people on this blog. I have been with orange for a while now and i have been to other operators over the years..I spoke to O2 yesterday and was told that the new iphone would not be out till christmas. But when looking on the web it points towards the end of June. there is a youtube video with the new iphone
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJXk4KMx50c
with music in the background called “The Show” by Lenka. heard it on Radio One a few days ago as first air play. due for release 15th of june.. which ties in with 2 weeks from apple release and retails release.. the web points to the 29 June..
I also spoke to Orange and there said they did not have the iphone in the future but there did say that o2`s exclusive deal was coming to an end and to watch this space.. My thoughts are to wait for the new model with Orange but even with being on a good deal on orange with a blackberry internet bold on i do think that with the unlimited and free WIFI. When Orange get the iphone i do not think that wifi or unlimited internet will be there? Orange has the Best customer Service and that is why i have not moved before.
OMG this would e amazing
orange wednesdays + iPhone = brilliant!!!!!
only been with nokia & orange for decades allways upgradding when possible. large user, been waiting for ages, orange customer since their second year (great customer service (speak as you find )want i phone not prepared to change service provider so if orange get i phone great best things for ages.
I was speaking to Orange Tech support last week and the guy there told me that they had been sent all the config settings for the Iphone. Why would they have these unless they were planning on offering it…. He reckoned it will be October this year…
left o2 last year and moved to orange! its deffinatly better, there network seems to be alot faster and now i dont get that stupid interference with electrical devices around the house unlike with o2, due to o2′s network being 20 years old and using 900mhz, also only go on o2 if you enjoy the fact that the police can eavesdrop on your calls as they run allongside the o2 network
Why not get an unlocked, jailbreak or whatever it’s called, iPhone from eBay? Then you can have your Orange cake while eating a healthy Apple (pie) iPhone….
Apple are just about to spend six weeks shooting a commercial. Normally commercials are shot over one or two days. I’d say something big is about to be launched.
Ok,
I’m coming to the end of my orange contract. I really, really want the iphone. Are Orange getting the damn thing or not? And if they are…when? Need to renewe contract in the next month!
my contract is up now.spoke to several people going to wait and see looks good the future is bright for ipone on orange.
Just spoke to geico, they were offering me the iphone on any contract starting from october!!!!!!!!!!
so its a certainty, they will go to all networks with the iphone, sense i guess.

Just got off the phone to Orange, lady on the phone said that Orange are in a bidding war at the mo to get rights for the iphone. This all comes to a end start of October, so we will find out then.
I too work for orange in the disconnections team and the only customers i struggle saving are those going for the i phone which is disheartening however it is true orange and voda are in a bidding war with the apple contract and o2′s contract comes to an end sometime in the autumn. Nothin has been confirmed but i am hoping the fact that orange have exclusivity to the i phone in france we stand a good chance. Its also a little misleading re the iphone 3gs on o2 as it promotes the iphone having internet downloadspeeds of 7mbps however the o2 network only support less than 2 mbps so performance on the orange network or voda would be faster anyway.Watch this space, fingers crossed for Orange
I am an Orange customer, I’m also a designer using a MacBook Pro, I love my BB Bold 9000 but i do think often about getting an iPhone as my BB doesnt talk to my Mac at all!! But…. Orange and their customer service ROCK! As opposed to O2 where they do anything but… My sis has an old 2G iPhone and O2 promised her an upgrade then went back on the deal!! They suck!! O2 you suck! And if anyone from Apple reads this… Please go with Orange in the UK! I went the see the Le Mans 24 hrs and popped into an Orange France store and saw an iPhone running on Orange… So… Steve Jobs, let Orange have the iPhone 3gs! It will be a wise move…
[...] Omio’s ‘iPhone on Orange‘ story was right! We were a mere year early, but news has broken from numerous sources that [...]
hi. im an orange employee. we recieved literature recently that that orange and t-mobile have won rights to i-phone for october 2009. however will only be selling the 3G not the 3Gs, which will remain exclusive to o2 (which probably wont last long). will be interesting to see what the price plans are like. i personally think that any talk plan MUST include web browsing and magic numbers, and more choice of lower talk plans should be offered than O2.
Oh I really hope so!! We have all been having this conversation for like 2 years now!!! How pleased will all the die hard loyal orange fans be if we are finally allowed an iphone each!!!
As a Orange Business seller I can’t wait until this phone come to orange, With this phone Orange will be invisable. The Orange network is the best for the Iphone, O2 dont have the 3G coverage to support this phone, Hopefuly Apple will let Orange have this phone and I will have some very happy business customers.
Hi
I have just tried to upgrade to the Iphone 3gs, moving from my current (Orange) provider to O2. I have been told by my supplier TODAY to hold fire as Orange and Tmobile have won the rights to sell the Iphone in SEPTEMBER 2009!!!! ……. Yayyyyy. Lets hope that this is true and it is the ‘S’ model as I was informed.
I spoke to orange customer service today as i had a problem with my phone, so its getting replaced tomorrow. My contract ends in november so i was saying i would like an iphone and was told that it may be out on orange from october, so all being well thats going to happen so i can get one, albeit as long as not silly priced!
i was told today when i tried to disconnect from orange that the iphone exclusivity end sin about three weeks and to expect the iphone to come to orange UK not long after. So i’m waiting!!! whoot. screw going to get the n97 from phones4u!!! i wanna iphone on orange!
As an imac and macbook pro user with a blackberry on Orange, I for one will do cartwheels of delight if the rumours are true! Can you imagine the business Orange will do around Christmas?
I can’t believe Apple were stupid enough to partner with O2 exclusively…thereby excluding over 60% of the buying public. It’s unlike them to make such a monumental business mistake. Did O2 really think we would all change to them…?
I’v ebeen waiting for the iphone to come homw for ages…the nice lady at Orange told me yesterday to ‘watch this space’ and not to upgrade my current phone just yet…yipee.
A sales guy in the Orange shop on Oxford St told me Friday they are getting iPhones end September – contract only, no PAYG and no tethering. Along the street a guy at Carphone Warehouse confirmed Orange will get iPhone 3G but not 3GS which remain s an )2 exclusive. Both parties said talks with Apple hadn’t been finalised.
When I spoke to orange customer services, a little over 4 weeks ago. I was informed that orange would not be offering the I phone EVER, and said that I should move to O2….. Yet, when I was in the Streatham branch,I was told not to upgrade as exclusivity with O2 was to end in September, and hinted very strongly that I should wait. All he did say was that he could not comment further..I have always been happy with Orange, and would never go to O2…All very positive!!!!!!!
But on the other hand I had a chat with another nice lady at Orange who said that as far as her staff knew, they weren’t getting the iPhone and that Orange have already turned Apple down once before because of “problems”. But then she did also say that the customer-facing staff are often the last people to know about new phones etc so goodness knows what’s actually going to happen
I just got a “carrier software” upgrade on my iPhone yesterday – and then when I checked in the settings menu it showed Orange and Vodafone as well as automatic…
Ive been an orange customer for c.5 years and have always been offered amazing retention offers to stay. However, my only problem with orange is that they play around with the phones too much – adding their own logos and proprietary programs.
I hope this is not the case if they do get the iphone. However, this could be a sticking point in any negotiations with apple as each will want to have their own branding and applications on the phone – also the data plans available on orange are pretty expensive compared to other carriers and you really need an unlimited data package for the iphone to really be worth it.
I really do hope they get the iphone but i must confess im not holding my breath
if the iphone 3gs does make it to orange i hope orange are going to revise their talk plans as they only offer 500mb a month down load limits & that’s not allot of use with an iphone.
spoke to orange customer service’s today with a view to leaving orange as my upgrade is due and i’d like a iphone, and i was told don’t do anything just yet as i would be able to upgrade to an iphone in the near future.
spoke to orange ‘customer retention team’ last night. they told me to give it three or four weeks before being too hasty with an upgrade or going to O2 as there’s a good chance they’ll be releasing it.
the way she said it came across as a ‘nudge nudge wink wink’!
i know they could just be spinning us all a yarn too keep our money in their pockets, but it’s worth the wait, just too see.
nearly went O2 last year but decided not too as orange’s customer service is second to none!
It is tru, they are getting it! I spoke to the customer advisor! He said hold out we are DEFINATLY getting it!
RJ
I too spoke to orange recently about leaving and going to 02, they told me to wait as there was a really good chance I could get the iphone soon with orange??? ….I wait till Nov then I go if I have to
Having just read some of the other comments have just remembered that yes orange do mess about with the phones too much how do we find this out?
as when i went in to the orange shop the other day they have no working models available for us to look at!
As for the plans lets hope orange can add unlimited browsing for less than the £ 5 difference & maybe even still unlimited texts i have my doubts!
I wonder how much custom orange have lost due to the i phone? & how much they may still loose? if they don`t get the i phone & get the plans right!
I rang to cancel my contract last week before i found this out… but then rang back today to find out if there where going to be any loyalty offers available! I was told that it now looks like Orange are not going to get rights to the iphone
im so confused
well, i’ve given in. why wait for orange/ vodafone/t-mobile to bring out a phone thats not the newest one?!
ive gone to O2, my 3Gs is arriving in the morning! woohoo!
hope you guys n gals get the result your all waiting for
this is true,02 have lost there contract with iphona becasuse there where maja 3g problems and infact in one month 3x 02 customers wernt able to connect to the internet as there server crashed, apple have clearly ststed to o2 very harshly that they wont be staying with o2,hoever thing are defintly in plans for orange getting the iphone as soon as october 2009,so if you are thinking of upgrading or canceling to an iphone hold on for a coupl of weeks it will be worth your time
Just spoke to Orange customer service and they say they are getting the iphone in October as O2 are loosing the contract then….so here’s hoping!!
Rep at Orange store said today that they would be getting the iPhone at the end of September.
Been to vodafone today and was told to wait till september 15th for more information…
i luckly enough spoke with one of the directors of Apple Retail bout 2 weeks ago and definately iphone will be released on 2 networks for sure Orange and Vodafone and if they manage release will be at the end of october!
Way too much confusion and conflicting messages-this could be a long wait …
I’ve just spoke to Orange loyalty team and was advised that O2 are not renewing there contract with Apple but they should be getting the Iphone 3G around november.
Orange are doing tests on the Iphone and if everything goes well then we should have it by christmas time.
I’m nearing the end of my contract with orange and am being contacted for upgrade when i said i was holding out for iphone release i was advised Orange are def not releasing because their technology is not compatible with iphone softwear
It’s definately happening, Orange retailer showed me all the promotional information today, booklets and flyers in his shop ready to go. Wouldn’t let me read it but tarrifs looked cheaper from what I could see. He also more or less said Orange may not get the 3gs, just the 3g.
Just heard from a mate at Orange’s customer services, due to technical difficulties the launch has now been delayed till “Q1 2010″. Fingers crossed its sooner rather than later.
Any chance of getting any photos of that stuff? WOW!
PP any chance you can get a hold of the copy of the leaflets? Which store was it?
Friend of mine spoke to an orange rep last week and Orange and T-Mobile will get the iphone. He said orange will release specific iphone contacts
spoke to a orange rep today,i was told the iphone is definately coming to orange ,,,,beginning of actober…yipee
Knowing orange…we will be looking Xmas at the earliest when they have finished ‘testing’…and then it will only be the 3G and not the 3GS….total waste of time.
This looks promising
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/telecoms/6156254/T-Mobile-and-Orange-hope-to-muscle-in-on-Apple-iPhone-contract-after-deal.html
TRUE THEY ARE NOT GETTING THE 3GS ONLY THE 3 G MODEL SORRY TO BE THE BEARER OF BAD NEWS
It will be the 3g model but an orange rep said to me that they will ge a major update and will run almost like the 3gs.
a woman i know works for orange and told me that they will be releasing the iphone on orange around october time and yes it will just be the 3G version and not the 3GS but who cares… you can get software updates for it which will make it just like the 3GS plus im overdue an upgrade with orange and really want an iphone so it looks like my luck is in
not sure if any1 has already posted this but iv heard that orange and T-mobile r merging together to make 1 huge network and its because of this they will stand a high chance of getting the iphone!
Was on the phone to retentions today. Told them I was wanting an iPhone. Got told that the 3G will definitely be out in October. They said there were rumours about the 3GS, but couldn’t say anything for sure!
Will just have to see what October brings!
Saw on the news last night that there have been talks between Orange & T-Mobile over a possible merger, which would make them the biggest mobile network in the UK with approx 29 million customers. Strange that both companies have been rumoured to be after the iPhone and now they may be teaming up. there’s no way that o2 would be sole iPhone carrier after that…. surely
However spoke to someone in the orange shop yesterday who made it quite clear they are not doing the iPhone
Thats odd appleofmyeye!
I was in an orange shop last weekend, as my g/f was getting an upgrade. I asked a sales advisor, and then the manager if orange would be getting the iphone, they were both adamant that orange WERE getting the iphone and should have it by November at the latest, i’ve also seen online somewhere orange having settings for the iphone already loaded onto their internal systems
“but don’t forget that Orange snagged the iPhone 3G in France, ”
Hardly!
Competition laws in France prevent handset manufacturers from limiting which network providers may offer their handsets
The only network providers in France that dont supply the iPhone are the ones that dont want to.
But the gist of the article is correct – O2′s exclusivity for the iPhone in the Uk ran out at the end of July 09 and Apple invited bids from other network providers – this time deciding to select 2 network providers – 1 of which is Orange – the other is “probably” T-Mobile.
Expect to see iPhones on Orange well before xmas
Already Sept ….won’t be holding my breadth…..it still has to pass testing…wish they would just confirrm it one way or the other…
Well sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I had a call from Orange on the 9th Sept as my contract is coming to an end and they tried to get me to resign up so I spoke to the rep on the phone.
To keep it short he said that he was pretty sure that the iphone wasn’t coming to Orange any time soon. He said it was supposed to happen this month (September) but nothing happened. I told him about the rumours and this site and he said he had heard nothing about it coming at the start of November and that it probably wasn’t going to happen any time soon. He even put me on hold to go off and speak to his line manager to see if he had heard any more but he came back with a no. Told him I was going to hold out till November to see if there was any more news and make my mind about what to do then. The guy was pretty cool about it and it didn’t seem like he was pushing me into making a desicion right there and then and he understood my situation wanting an iphone but not wanting to leave Orange.
Fingers crossed he was wrong and they turn up in a couple of weeks and I can get on board, I don’t even care if it is just the 8gig 3G, would just like that sleek bit of kit to complement the new MacBook I have just purchased.
I spoke to orange last week and they said that they couldn’t comment on the iPhone but that there was literature around the building showing that the iPhone could be launched on orange on the 4th October 2009, he said to ring back then.
i have been on orange for many years and cant be bothered with the hassle of changing networks however want the i phone! im also due a upgrade, i phone orange yesterday and i was told orange are gettin the iphone hopfully end of september if not october, therefore my problem been solved hold out till then n get the amazin iphone on good old orange!
Exact same situation for me…Orange like to mess people about…not confirming a date…half way through sept and no confirmation…pretty close to going to O2…
Just spoke to Orange about ceasing and asked about the iPhone. Was told it was in testing (which should take a week) & then it will be lunched with a big campaign for October. Because of some ongoing exclusivity they are only getting the 3G (not s), but the ‘s’ is just firmware upgrade that can be downloaded from Apple.
Seems encouraging.
Give the people what they want . Find a way sort it out . My iPod touch just needs 2be a phone love the way they work . Really easy interface !
do you think if a large group of people on orange who are due an upgrade were to ring them up and say that we want the iphone and if we dont get it we are leaving orange and goin to 02, they would get a bit flustered and just tell us if they are deffo getting it or not? lol put a bit of pressure on them thats what i say
I think we should do that dan
Bloody good idea…
I spoke to orange customer services last night and told them I want to leave to get an iPhone on O2, I said if it is coming out on Orange I will wait, so they informed me that they will be getting the iPhone, it should be announced around the 9th October when the O2 contract runs out. It will be just the 3G not the 3Gs sadly. I have 6 months left of my Orange contract, apparently I will be able to pay £50-£100 to upgrade early to the iPhone when it comes out. Happy Days
Just spoke to Orange..say they are in the bidding for it come October…but don’t know if or when they will be getting it….not compelling enough…off to O2 i think…
I have been following all the rumours etc for ages as was going to leave orange and move to O2, it might not mean much as every person ive spoken to in Orange shops seem to know either the same or less than me but on the Orange website there is 2 clear indications that somethings happening:
1 = The iphone is in the list for the Orange settings
2 = Orange had a heading on their shop site for “iphone style phones” e.g. the Hero etc this has now been removed however in the coming soon phones there is nothing on the iphone
I was in Orange shop last weekend and asked about iphone. Was told that it was coming at end of this month although they had been told this every month for last four months. Model was likely to be 3G and not 3Gs and there would be a charge to upgrade, not available free on any tariff, with steep monthly charges – not competitive against O2.
It seems pretty clear that some time or another Orange will be getting an iphone to sell… but i really don’t get why orange will be getting an iphone 3g and not an iphone 3gs!?
There are some major differences in the upgrade (twice as fast, more versatile apps) and i would much rather get an updated iphone 3gs when committing to a 2 year contract. If Orange gets the iphone 3gs… thats great, if they don’t get the iphone 3gs, then I really don’t see the point… Also, wouldn’t Apple have only one phone company to sell the 2 different iphones?? If not, then who is selling the 3gs after october, does O2 have a longer contract with the it?…..IM CONFUSED!!
I just called Orange,
they said they have no information at all on the iPhone, And the guy that I spoke to knew less about it than I did! in fact he was interested in the information I was reading off this page.
I don’t know if it is just a hopeful rumor, or if there is a little bit of truth in it, but it looks like O2 are going to keep their sticky little mits on the iPhone for a lot longer.
If anyone does get concrete proof, or offer of a contract, please post some information on here A.S.A.P
Fingers crossed hey!
Having been with Orange since 1999…this sounds so like them….won’t be soon…won’t be cheap….and won’t be 3GS…..time for a change.
I also spoke to Orange and they informed me that it would be about 6 weeks from now. They didn’t want to lose me as a customer as I spend so much with them. From what I can gather, it’s only the 3G…. What use is this, forget it. It’s actually cheaper for me to buy a 3gs, hack it and put it on my Orange contract. Just get the right kit Orange and tell apple to go jump with 3G! HTC Hero running Android is a better phone than the normal 3g so if apple want to shift units, it’s got to be the 3gs as the only people who’ll take the 3g off orange are idiots who don’t know what they’re doin’….
Yeah I’ve noticed too that Iphone alternative has been removed from the Orange website. Carphone Warehouse hadn’t heard anything and said 3gs was contracted to 2011 by 02.
Two contacts I know have heard the same rumours.
Just gotta sit it out it seems.
Finally a chance to get an iPhone which i really want, and to stay with my fav provider Orange ^_^
best of both worlds – hopefully they will keep their great packages (with unlimited texts) unlike O2
Have just rang orange customer services to enquire about when I would have to give notice to terminate my current orange contract so that I could move to O2 for the iphone and he didnt say anything about Orange getting the iphone. When I asked if they were, he said he didnt know and that all he knew was that the contract with 02 was coming to an end soon and he didnt know who would be getting the contract with Apple. I would have thought that if it was happening as soon as some of these posts are suggesting he would have known about it by now.
Have just called the orange Premier team, they informed me that Orange are definately in strong negotiations with Apple because Apple is apparently dissapointed with O2′s 3G network coverage… he is also said that he’s about 80% posotive that it will happen and when it does it will be literally the beginning of November! Start saving ur pennies for that more than likely large upgrade cost people!
Well I should know because I am on technical pre-selection committee at orange.de – right now apple are looking to charge us a lot of moneys and its all about how much we can subsidise our handsets. We have best 3g network compared to o2 but to be honest we will probably lose customers because our data tarifs are pants and our premier customer service isn’t as good as it use to be. But I hope I will get one.
I work in Orange retail and am also waiting for the iphone release on the Orange network. I dont have any solid inside evidence on its release and I dont believe any other staff member at Orange does either – its all rumour at this stage!! These people who have been told definately this date definately that date its all rubbish. Thats why so many people have unfortunately been given conflicting info! Its almost impossible for them to be in contact with anyone who actually knows whats going on with the Apple/Orange talks unless they are on the board of directors or something!! When/if they release it we will find out at least 2 weeks before!
Just hope they sort it quick so I dont have to buy one PAYG on 02!!!!
I called orange this mornig as I nearing the end of my contract and was told they will be getting the Iphone in October/November. I asked if there was a reserve list and was told no and advised to keep checking the website.
I’m glad this is happening as been with Orange for about 10 years and didn’t want to move network to get the iphone.
Whenever i have called no confirmation has been given on the iphone….will cancel my contract this weekend if i have not heard by then ..don’t want to as i have been with Orange for ten years…
No news from the Orange shop yesterday. The staff couldn’t tell me anything about Iphone launch, stating that ‘We’ll probably get it eventually’…
Ended up ordering an HTC Hero. The handset is ‘free’, 18 months @ £29 per month with insurance included, unlimited data, 600 mins & texts…
Iphone just too much money on O2.
Just spoke to Orange and they said Novemeber (but they cannot confirm if this is true)
Hi ,
i was shopping today int he Trafford Centre and went into the 02 shop, the sales assistant told me that the exclusive deal was toend in October 09 and orange were tipped to break the monopoly…. so good news and i cant wait , the iphone will come to orange in the uk. so hang fire those waiting to upgrade or have come to an end of contract like m e…..
I went to the Trafford Centre in Manchester yeaterday and visited teh 02 shop. The sales assistant their told me that it was inevitable that orange will take away the monopoly and 02 will lose its exclusivity with iphone. This will happen as soon as early october this year.
I cnat wait for this as i have been with orange for over 12 years and dont want to leave orange but want an iphone. Orange 3g is excellent, price, coverage and tariffs are excellent. but if this does not happen, then i will have to rethink as my contract ends this november and i need an iphone !!! so please orange – and I phone – get together and create the competition we’ve all been waiting for….
