New Sony Ericssion XPERIA Revealed, Codenamed “Rachel”

New day, new leak from Sony Ericsson! This time, the XPERIA-branded touchscreen device currently codenamed “Rachel” might have a few things under the bonnet to make rivals green with envy!
These images are from Danish site Mobil, and the accompanying stats are giving us goosebumps! The super-fast Snapdragon chip (which will soon debut in the Toshiba TG01) beats at Rachel’s heart, with a potential CPU speed of 1GHz and 7.2Mbps HSPA data transfer.
An 8 megapixel autofocus camera and 3.5mm headphone jack/miniUSB make this a very versatile device, and there’s no escaping the gorgeous and imposing 4″ WVGA screen.
Oh, and it’s rumoured to be running on Android!
Rachel differs from the recently sighted XPERIA X2/ ‘Vulcan’ in that a physical keyboard is nowhere to be seen, presumably as the interface will be based on the full-touch deal offered by the newest versions of Android.
Astute readers on Android Guys have noted that the front fascia has only 3 buttons, as opposed to the requisite 5 offered by previous Googlephones like the HTC Hero and Samsung i7500. Perhaps the ‘call’ and ‘disconnect’ buttons are suddenly expendable when a name like Sony Ericsson is involved?
It will be interesting to see the levels of customisation Sony Ericsson will bring to the open source OS (the Satio was a revelation and unrecognisable as running on Symbian), and just how the XPERIA brand will manifest itself going into 2010.
More details when we get them, folks!
