LG Watch Phone: August Release On Orange UK

lg-gd910

Get ready to live out all of your James Bond fantasies as the LG Watch Phone GD910 that turned heads in CES (and again at Mobile World Congress) is finally getting a release, thanks to Orange UK!

A timed release with the network, the GD910 will only be available on prepay or SIM-free from August, and to those with a gadget budget rivalling Q himself.

This tends to only occur when a handset is entry level or very expensive, and with a rumoured cost of around £1,000, it proves that squeezing touchphone tech into a device that fits on your wrist is quite a costly exercise.

The CEO of Orange UK, Tim Alexander, thinks that the cool factor will offset any pricetag worries…

“…the watch phone is the must-have gadget of 2009. It’s handcrafted, exclusively limited, and will turn heads on the high street”, and will supposedly bring “a 21st-century experience to our 21st century customers”.

The 21st Century also brought us Lady GaGa, swine flu and Keyboard Cat, so perhaps that’s not the best indicator…

In continuing, it sounds as though Orange are making a bid to court luxury shoppers:

“…our ambition is to become the best loved communications brand in the UK, and the destination brand of choice for high-end mobile users in the market. To help us achieve this, we have secured some of the most original and innovative devices available”.

The high end smartphone market has become hallowed territory for both manufacturers and retailers, a growing segment whilst other are on the decline. With credit-crunch conscious shoppers going for cheap SIM-only deals, the early adopters are still willing to spend a lot on the latest handsets.

With lofty plans for fashion phone sequels, top-flight and iPhone killers as a brand, we are certain to see more luxury devices from LG in the coming months.
