LG GW620: Android Phone Becomes Official

lg-etna-1

The LG GW620 has been seen in various guises in recent months, but the first Android handset from the Korean manufacturer codenamed ‘Etna’ has finally been announced today.

Touting the now familiar social networking and web browsing credentials that Android brings to the table, the GW620 is a touchscreen slider handset which houses a spacious 5-row full QWERTY keyboard and some above average specs.

A 5-megapixel camera, a 3″ TFT resistive display and a robust media player are coupled with smart phone level connectivity in the form of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support.

The only thing which is slightly disappointing is the lack of Android customisation that the GW620 offers. Despite being a first foray for LG, we have seen some pretty amazing things on handsets built on top of the platform like the recently unveiled Motorola DEXT, forthcoming Sony Ericsson ‘Rachel’/XPERIA X3 and even the entry-level HTC Tattoo. A vanilla-flavoured Android experience might find it hard to cut it in such a competitive market…

We’ve seen interfaces seamlessly integrated on LG devices running Windows Mobile so we know that they can put a bit of slap on an otherwise daunting UI, time will tell if a spruced up GW520 running Google’s operating system can win over text and tweet loving social butterflies.

A fourth quarter release has been announced for various European markets, pricing has not yet been confirmed.

Check out the LG GW620 features that have been revealed so far…details to follow.
