HTC Evo 4G Android Phone Not Due For UK Releases

The HTC Evo 4G Android phone, the rumoured HTC Supersonic, has been made official and it’s a BEAST.

It’s being hailed as the most powerful smartphone ever made, thanks to it’s WiMax 4G download speeds.

Bad news for the UK & Europe however… HTC have revealed that it’s not coming to these shores. A suitably straightlaced official word from their spokespeople is …there are no current plans for this handset to be available in Europe.

Unfortunately, the HTC Evo’s 4G capabilities would be useless in this country – at present WiMax network presence in the UK is negligible. We’ll have to wait for some serious investment from the networks before phones like the Evo become available here.

Nevertheless, don’t mind us while we give the new HTC a good ogle… From the outside, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the Supersonic as an HTC HD2 with a neat kickstand: it’s got a similarly massive WVGA 4.3” touchscreen and 1Ghz Snapdragon CPU.

On closer inspection it’s got a whole lot more beef though – an 8 megapixel camera that shoots 720p HD video, 1GB of storage, an HDMI port for routing it to your TV and a forward facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video calling.

We’re left wondering – how long before we stand a chance of seeing a 4G network over here that can support handsets as cool as this?

Last December O2 and Chinese wireless tech company Huawei carried out 4G trials in South London, achieving speeds of 150Mbps (by comparison, HSDPA-enabled networks have theoretical limits of either 3.6 or 7.2 Mbps), but don’t expect anything to be rolled out until late 2010. <Sighs>.

Until that time, the best handset for strolling around on 3G will be the forthcoming and rather marvelous HTC Desire >>

4G is not important for lots of people. 3G is enough. I just want a phone with this specs, don’t care if it’s 4G or not.

I feel the same, don’t give a monkeys about 4g just make this phone available so I can buy it!

I concur with the previous responses. Make this phone available in the UK please! It’s something I’m sure many people would love to have regardless of 4G or not.

Soo annoyed, Love the look of the HD2 and would take one with anroid anyday but dont want the limited WiMo apps. This would be even better! dont care which they do, put android on a HD2 or releaser this in the UK but please choose one! Who cares about 4g, it just makes it “future proof”.

Most of us are running around with Quad Band technology anyway but only use the UK’s supporting band. The introduction of 4G should’t be a factor, after all, why would we care if the phone was US/4G compatible, at least we should have the chance/opportunity of future proofing our pockets !.

While I have no idea what a 4G is, I simply must have this phone. Besides, it’s probably time I retired my Nokia 3210…

3210 oh dear!

I agree with Simon… either make the HD2 android or release this!

WTF is wrong with HTC! they tempt us with a fantastic phone then stick Windows 6.5 on it. they bring this bad boy out but then won’t release it in the UK!

No wonder every tosser has an iPhone.
