Dell Smartphones Rejected For Being Boring…Sent “Back To Drawing Board”
The start of 2009 was met by a slew of manufacturers eager to get onto the mobile phone money gravy train, having seen the insane success met by Apple’s triumphant forced entry into what was always considered a very closed market.
Acer, Hyundai, even computer maker Dell announced their first foray into the world of portable telephony. However, whilst the first two came up with suitably crazy designs to bring something new to the table, the Dell handset demos were decidedly less inspirational to the network providers.
Apparently rejected due to failing to offer any distinguishing features in what is currently a cut-throat smartphone market, as well as the lack of potential profit for both carrier and manufacturer, Dell’s range of Windows and Android prototypes were given the thumbs down.
Kaufman Brothers analyst Shaw Wu has said they have gone “back to the drawing board” in an effort to create something more exciting. Dell has certainly been focusing on both style and substance with recent computers, with the Adamo and their new range of colourful notebooks showing some artistic flair.
Perhaps they could lend some of that to their DellPhones (name pending)?
