Firefox Mobile Browser ‘Fennec’ Demoed on Nokia N810

By Ernest Doku

With the desktop version of Firefox managing to take a healthy market share as people get fed up with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, many are eagerly anticipating what Mozilla can do with the mobile version, dubbed ‘Fennec’.

Well, the beta version has been released for the Nokia N810 Internet Device, and it looks mightily impressive. Retaining that Firefox feel, the most impressive part is that Fennec supports add-ons, those third party ‘apps’ which make the Firefox browsing experience so unique.

They will need to be ported across unfortunately, but it is an exciting prospect. A gesture add-on has already been created, allowing users to swipe in directions to bring up tools whilst the cool way of closing tabs needs to be seen!

These videos give a closer look at how it works in motion. The first shows off the smartURL bar (similar to Spotlight or Web OS whilst-you-type searching) and how Fennec aims to minimise hassle, whilst the second concentrates on the gesture add-on.

Wonder how it will work on phones as opposed to a device with a 4.13 inch, WVGA screen?
