Fastlane Street Racing on iPhone – Ridge Racer Beater?
With the Playstation Portable coming up to being four years old, arguably the best titles for it still were those released at its launch – namely puzzle game Lumines and arcadey drive-em-up Ridge Racers.
The jawdropping graphics, sense of speed and ludicrous drifting physics of the latter made it the title to get everyone excited about the real power of a portable format.
The first game to recapture that feeling in all this time is Fastlane Street Racing for the iPhone. With the quality of iPhone titles varying wildly between the terrible and the sublime, seeing this video only cements the consensus that it is the only gaming device to pose a real challenge to the Nintendo DS.
Fastlane replicates the powersliding mechanic, the urban sprawl and idyllic beach based tracks and the smooth graphics of the PSP inspiration, and looks set to take the chequered flag upon its eventual App Store release.
