Spotify Coming To The iPhone

Spotify, the free music streaming site, used to be invitation only but they’ve just recently lifted the restrictions.
The Swedish company started in..and it works like a cross between last.fm and iTunes all in all like a big digital musical jukebox.
It’s free to access the music but there are 15 second adverts every half hour but for £9.99 a month you can subscribe for uninterrupted, ad-free listening.
I’ve been a big fan since getting an invite last month, until a couple of weeks ago the site was invite only. The software lets you listen to entire albums as often as you want, sometimes before they’re even released. You can also make up your own playlists, all the major record companies are included and the catalogue is continually expanding. So it’s a very viable iTunes competitor.
There have been rumours of a Spotify mobile app for a while but news that Spotify have hired a Symbian specialist raelly cements any second guessing.
The only thing holding it back from being on the same level as Lastfm and iTunes was the portability factor. Prior to having a Spotify mobile application you were tied to using it on your computer or laptop.
Popular opinion seems to be that the iPhone app will initially be only available to premium users, will offer over-the-air streaming of the entire library, plus access to playlists and you should be able to save tracks and albums temporarily to your iPhone so you can access them when out of range of Wi-Fi or mobile networks.
