T-Mobile UK Launches January Sale, Slashes Contract, PAYG and SIM Only Deals

The mulled wine is still warm in Omio Towers and yet T-Mobile are already thrusting into a January sale of epic proportions!

From today (23rd December) until the 31st of January, T-Mobile are offering discounts on contract deals, pay-as-you-go handsets and propping up their SIM only offers too.

In the pay monthly arena, the magenta network are taking a fiver off per month from the HTC Desire S, making it available for free from just £20 on a 24-month contract. A fiver more will net you the new and improved BlackBerry Curve 9360, complete with unlimited BlackBerry mail.

T-Mobile’s own-brand Android handset – the Vivacity – will now only set you back just £10.21 per month, a bargain for a Gingerbread-powered device complete with 3.5″ touchscreen and 5-megapixel camera.

For those happy with their current device and looking for a SIM only deal, T-Mobile now offers up to 500MB of free internet with every package, including both 30-day and 12-month plans. Factoring in unlimited texts to the bargain, and the offer stacks up favourably with the SIMO competition.

Phone fans will also appreciate the myriad offers in the PAYG section, including the HTC Wildfire S having its price shaved by £30 from £179.99 to £149.99, and the ever-popular BlackBerry Curve 8520 falling to £119.99, a saving of twenty quid.

There are a ton of other discounts across the board, so please be sure to check out their site for the full line-up of reductions!

Know Your Mobile Awards: Vote Now!

With gift season looming, it’s a fine time for major websites to dutifully hand out plaudits and praise to the best gadgets, ensuring that no-one ends up with the electronic equivalent of an orange in their Christmas stocking…

This time, it is the turn of Know Your Mobile‘s fair readers to cast their vote on the winners (and losers) in the world of phones for 2010.

Entry is simple, just fill out this short survey to pin a virtual rosette onto the manufacturer, network, handset, developer, mobile game, and must-have accessory of the last year that you think deserves it most.

As if the warm fuzzy feeling from filling out a survey wasn’t enough, your entry makes you eligible for a prize draw to win a brand new Samsung Wave handset worth £290!

Well, what are you waiting for? The closing date for the survey is November 30th, whilst both award and Wave winners will be drawn on December 15th.

Best of luck!

COMPETITION: Win An Apple iPad, Courtesy Of Review Centre!

Yeah, it’s an Apple iPad up for grabs. The sexiest device going, a magical experience, the future of reading etc. etc…we just think it’s a pretty cool way to be able to surf the web and play games on a big old touchscreen.

We haven’t got an iPad to give away ourselves – you’d have to prize it from my cold dead hands to get a go on Flight Control HD – but opinion site Review Centre does, and entering their competition is pretty darned easy. You can win via one of two ways:

1. Become a fan of their Facebook fan page, which is located around here. Just click on the “Become a Fan” button, easy like peas!

2. Tweet (yes, you will have to be one with the Twitterverse) the following message as written below:

Wanna win an iPad? http://bit.ly/rcIpad | Read @review_centre iPad reviews too at http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews246164.html

That is quite literally it, now you just sit by the door and wait for your iPad to arrive in the mail! If you’re chosen upon the closing date of Monday 26th April, that is. If you didn’t win, then it’d be a whole lot of wasted time waiting. Knit a jumper, perhaps?

Oh, and good luck. Tell them Omio sent you. It won’t help your chances any, mind.

Those with less luck and a little more patience can wait to see what the networks are shilling now they’ve all announced iPad-specific tariffs ready for the the tablet’s UK arrival. With Orange, O2 and Vodafone all on board, it’ll be interesting to see the differences (if any) in price from the major carriers.

Win A Nokia N97, Scare Omio In Our Halloween Competition!

OmioWinN95Banner-600-72

In the spirit of the season, you’ll see that Omio has embraced an altogether more frightening air in recent days…this is because we’re giving away a brand new Nokia N97 (courtesy of Phones4U) to one of our lucky, lucky readers!

We’re a bit sad about how Hallowe’en has become more about the sweets and than the scares, as well as the lack of association that the holiday has with our first love, mobile phones.

So…our competition (which is not the least bit commercial) asks you to take the scariest picture or make the most blood-curdling video, and send in to us by midnight on All Hallows’ Eve via Twitter!

Whether it be a photo of a possessed mobile or a slasher movie remake shot using your cameraphone, the more inventive your entry the better!

We only ask that they be your own original creations, and whilst your images can be a bit gory, we ask they err on the side of decency regarding nudity…a bit of a contradiction, but we don’t want Omio to end up as one of those sites!

The best entries will go up in our Rogues’ Gallery, with the eventual winner selected on All Hallows’ Eve at the witching hour (that’s midnight on October 31st for the demonically challenged)!

Follow @omiodotcom on Twitter to submit your pics, and go to our competition page for more details. So be quick, the competition runs until the end of October, and are looking to reward only the most macabre of entries!

Good luck!

Android Paid Apps Available From Tomorrow!!

androida

At Android’s big media event this morning, the press junket was all about the paid app store.

Android announced they’ll be opening up their app store to paid downloads on Thursday 12th of March.

T-Mobile’s head of internet entertainment Regan Whitehead said:

“From tomorrow, UK customers will have paid apps on the phone, and there’ll be a wide selection of paid apps on the market,”

T-Mobile will be heavily promoting Guitar Hero around the time of its launch so it won’t be instantly available (sigh..) but EA Mobile and the other big companies producing Android-compatible games should be available for download tomorrow.

Today Huawei Announces A Brand New Android Handset at MWC

huawei1

According to AisforAndroid, Chinese handset manufacturer today has showcased its first Android powered handset at the Mobile World Conference. There is an image, courtesy of CNet which looks suspiciously like an iPhone. In fact I think, CNet just took a picture of an iPhone and hoped no-one would notice. It’s good news for the Android which seems to be gaining momentum; first the G1, then the HTC Magic, next this Huawei phone. Details are scant about the phone itself, given that they just unveiled the handset and only had a non-working sample at their stall.

Orange return with 2-4-1 Wednesdays

orange-weds

Orange is giving us more for our cash.

Orange are piling their budget, all 7 million marketing pounds of it, into the latest adaption of their Orange Wednesday promotion.

Previously, the scheme gave Orange customers half price cinema entry on a Wednesday night.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the network will now be getting together with Pizza Express and throwing in some 2-4-1 pizzas too.

The campaign’s set to launch on the 6th of February so all you’ve got to do now is get your boy/girlfriend onto Orange and you’re sorted.

Wooo..KDD brings out 3D phones

Japan are always one step ahead tech-wise.

They’ve had mobile phone wallets that let you pay for things with your phone for a while. It’s peculiar to see someone scanning a phone over a vending machine before they walk away with the contents. It’s a bit like stepping into the future or an episode of the Jetsons .

So, it makes sense that the stakes are always that bit higher with new gadget releases.

The new Ketai Hoo1 has an 3.1 inch hinged screen, named after it’s manufacturer Woo, that can display pictures and video content in 3D along with a button on the phone that takes you to a dedicated channel streaming 3D content over an integraetd 1Seg receiver.

Wooo for Woo.
